RECREATIVO 2-1 Clapham Alexandra 14.2.10
Finally, we've managed to put a good little run of games together, finding the kind of form that leaves us scratching our heads in wonder just why we have found ourselves at the wrong end of the table. We fancied it today, building the team around experienced heads at the back, the engine of Adam and Joao in midfield and the leggy youth steaming into the opposing defence like the ICF crashing into Millwall halfway down Green Street. This match will probably be remembered by the second half handbags, a few choice tackles that saw our younger lads swinging arms and shoving, but it shouldn't take away from the decent football that was played by Recreativo today. Connor scored the best goal of the season so far, a 25 yard strike that swerved mid-flight and left the goalie helpless.
Clapham equalised a few minutes into the second half (what is it with Recreativo unable to defend bloody corners straight after the break?!), but Connor added another late on and a very determined team effort saw it out to the final whistle. Great stuff! Special mention must go to James today, who's played in almost every position this past year. After stepping in for goalie duty some many months ago, he's definitely made that position his own and his last ditch saves have gone along way to keeping Reccy on the winning side these past few games.
Three points for Recreativo and into the car for the drive home. We discuss Pete Docherty, heroin, the back streets of Napoli and the Rome Parthenon. Listen to 606 in the bath (mostly Spurs fans coming back from Bolton moaning about Harry Rednapp's lack of a plan B), watch a bloke on Countryfile selling some sheep, open a bottle of Malbec and stretch out on the settee for the next installment of Dimbleby's 'Seven Ages of Britain'. This week it's the Tudors. Henry the Eighth, the dissolution of the catholic monasteries and the Reformation. A sumptuous and rich history lesson before lights out and the agony of monday morning's 5.30am alarm.
Team: James Humphreys, Mario Pisano (John Megaughin), Gregg Morgan, Jimmy Lloyd, Jimmie Gregory (Joe Dunthorne), Nick Candy (Bilal Talib Ali) Aaron Gayle, Adam Bradbury, Joao Spinola, Connor Joseph, Max Bland.
