RECREATIVO 2-2 Livingstone Academicals 31.1.10

Sinking into the settee in front of David Dimbleby's 'Seven Ages of Britain' with a glass of red wine in hand, the remote within reach and scoffing big gobfuls of Dairy Milk, seemed the perfect way to finish a very good sunday. The Roman invasion of Britain, the golden archeological treasures of Sutton Hoo, the Norman conquests and the Bayeux tapestry briefly offered a televisual relief from physical pain, a respite from the torn and twisted muscles after an afternoon trampling across Regents Park in one of Recreativo's better games of football this season.
And a mighty fine game of football it had been, the highlights of which were two stunning goals from Recreativo. The first, a through ball pounced on by Bilal who deftly chipped the keeper from the edge of the box and the second, a fierce shot from Aaron that almost tore a hole through the back of Livingstone's net. Superb!
All in all, a much improved team performance, despite many regulars missing today. The game saw plenty of football actually played on the floor (for once!), our younger lads skillfully threading balls through from midfield. Nick's "Is my cheekbone broken?" cry, eyes closed, flat out in the filthy cold mud, summed up the spirit in the team today, determined to win every 50-50, determined to take away something from this match. In the end, it was only a point, but it meant more than that. It was a big team performance today, a turning point in our season which we now aim to get back on track.
As always, we shake hands, collect the muddy kit and head for home. We discuss John Terry's infidelity, the World Cup and work on the way back and get home in time to switch on Sky and witness Man Utd tearing Arsenal apart at the Emirates. Not even a beer and sausage sandwich can console gooner Nick who sits and shouts at the telly (although young Storm the Yiddo is bouncing up and down on the settee). Atletico vs Malaga, Football's Next Star and then Mr Dimbleby see out the rest of the evening.
