Sandmere 2-3 Recreativo *friendly

Battersea Park 2pm 14.9.08

We maintain our 'most punctual team in the league' tag, a badge of pride for our well organised and eager football entourage every sunday afternoon. Despite two hours already spent with our junior team, we make it, more or less, on time for the meet and snake our way down to Battersea Park for today's friendly. We're already in kit, out on the pitch and waiting for the other half of Sandmere to show up, which allows us a decent time for a vigorous warm up, a piss in the bushes and a few minutes to marvel at the full-on fairground and dog show going on along the touch line. These pre-match kickabouts can always be a valuable ingredient to our great forays into South London. A good laugh. A time to gossip and mess about. A time for banter and piss taking. A little bit of fun before the seriousness of the match explodes across the pitch and the shouts and screams and tackles and barging and charging about
squeezes your chest and gives you that gorgeous adrenalin fix. Aahh! Sunday football...
And good it was too. Our pre match workout, our punctuality, our teamtalk and effort paid off today as we beat a side who we had never got the better of before. Nick Candy had a great debut in front of our defence. Daniel grabbed another two goals from midfield and Steve had a Gordon Banks moment a few minutes from the end which ensured a victory for the boys from Hackney.
