RECREATIVO 4-1 Sandmere 19.9.10

Our ref is stuck in traffic on the way from West Ham and only nine players from Sandmere have found their way to our pitch. The Marshes can be a confusing place if you don't know where you are going. North Marsh, South Marsh, East Marsh, over the cow bridge, the little bridge over the river, Homerton Road. We send out maps and directions every week but still get calls 20 minutes before kick off asking where are we? We leave the car down by Clapton Park estate wondering if it will still be there when we get back. As we cross the North Marsh, Mario remarks, "This is where it all started". Eight years on and we're still here with possibly the strongest team we've ever had, playing some scintillating football and tearing up through a league made of some of London's finest.
We finally kicked off, Sandmere desperately trying to recruit players from other pitches (they even asked if any of our subs would play for them and make up their eleven...the cheek!). Despite only having nine, they did put up a good fight and seem a well handy team. However our full team enabled us to take full advantage and come on, every team needs a little luck now and again. Play possession football and surely we would win. And that's what we did, goals coming from a marauding Adam Bradbury charging up from central defence and a goal a piece for Joe Haley, Benson and Liam. A late strike for Sandmere was a consolation for a decent performance. We look forward to playing them later in the season when the numbers will be hopefully matched. Still, a win is a win, three points in the bag and a sunday off next week. Lovely!
Team: James Humphreys, Mario Pisano (Marcus du Sautoy), Joao Spinola, Adam Bradbury (Chris Read), Joe Dunthorne (Jimmie Gregory), Benson Chambers, Joe Haley, Aaron Gayle (John Megaughin), Connor Joseph, Max Bland, Liam Greenaway.
